2008 “Wonders of Plastics” Essay Contest
For Southern California
Society of Plastics Engineers is proud to sponsor our fourteenth annual essay contest.
Open to all junior high and high school students within Southern California.
The 1st place winner will receive $500.00 honorarium and an additional $100.00 honorarium for their school from the Southern California Section of SPE. The 2nd place will receive $250.00 and 3rd place will $100.00 honorariums for student and $100.00 for their schools.
The 1st place winning essay will be published in The SPE Press, our Section’s monthly newsletter. The winning essay will also be forwarded to the Society’s headquarters to compete with winning essays from Sections around the world. The international prize consists of a $1,000.00 honorarium for the student and a $1,000.00 honorarium their school. The winning essay will be published in SPE’s official magazine, Plastics Engineering.
The Section level awards will be presented during SPE Education Night on March 20, 2008 at the Southern California Edison CTAC Center in Irwindale, CA.
Some suggested topics are:
Plastics in the environment Plastics usefulness in society
Creative use of recycled plastics How plastics benefit humankind
What plastics has done for me Why the bad reputation of plastics is wrong
How plastics improve our lifestyle Advantages of plastics in food packaging
The essay must be sponsored by a teacher and must meet certain requirements.
